The Adams Incubator invites artists from the Berkshires and beyond to use our physical space to develop bold, original works that foster cross-cultural and cross-disciplinary collaborations. What makes our residencies unique is our dedication to cultivating the interactions between the visiting artists and the local communities.

In 2023, the Adams Theater hosted 3 residencies: Floating Tower music theatre collective (with immigrant artists from North Adams, New York City, and refugees from Ukraine), Fern Katz & collaborators (with artists from Stockbridge, Portugal, and New York City), and CP4P International Productions (with artists from Pittsburgh, Ukraine, and Kurdistan). During these residencies, the artists-in-residence not only presented their work-in-progress to the local communities, but also invited the public to movement workshops, open rehearsals, and Q&A sessions. Floating Tower even engaged the local singers, musicians, and children to be a part of the performance ensemble.

Inspired by these positive experiences, the Adams Incubator is planning to create 3 to 4 residencies each year, during which artists are invited to stay in Adams for a week or more while developing original works on and off our stage.

At the Adams Incubator, we believe that cultural exchanges transform communities and we celebrate works that challenge the status quo. Please get in touch with us about residency opportunities at info@adamstheater.org

HISTORY

The Adams Incubator began as a flexible event space/office at 35 Park Street in Adams. For 7 months in 2022, while the Adams Theater building was under construction, our collaborators and staff continued to engage the local communities at the Incubator, hosting events such as play readings, improv workshops, artist gatherings, artist lectures, and community meetings.

The Adams Incubator has taken on a new definition since our inaugural programming season in 2023, as the theater developed residency programs in addition to presenting shows.
